Week of May 29, 2023

Happy Tuesday,

This week, students will be dismissed at noon. Please make sure your child knows the plan for dismissal. Extended day will only be available for students that are already enrolled in the program. There will be no extended day on Friday. All students must be either a car rider, walker (on sheet from the beginning of the year), or bus rider.

This Thursday and Friday will be game day. Students are invited to bring in a game of their choosing. Students are allowed to bring in electronics. Students are not allowed to connect to the schools Wi-Fi so please make sure that the games are already downloaded to the device.

This is my last newsletter for this school year. It has been a pleasure being your child's teacher this school year. I hope everyone has a wonderful summer and super successful 5th Grade year. Please keep in touch and let me know about all of the achievements that your child earns over the coming years. I always say being an elementary teacher is like reading the beginning of the greatest book ever and not ever getting to read the whole book.

Have a GREAT summer,
Aesha

our child.

We will have our 4th Grade End of the Year Party on Thursday May 25th. The party will take place in the JBE Bus Loop. Times will be announced soon.
For our party we will be having a carnival. The parents for each 4th grade class will be in charge of running two activities. On the day of the party each class will rotate through each activity. Be on the look out for more information from our Room Parents.
We are in need of parent volunteers for the party. Please use the link below to sign up. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

During the week of May 29th students will be dismissed at noon. Students will be offered lunch from the cafeteria each day. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday students will have regular hot lunch choices. On Friday 6/2 students will receive a bag lunch. If you would like for your child to get a lunch on the last day of school, please make sure you have communicated that to your child's homeroom teacher.
Students that are already enrolled in Extended Day will attend extended day as they normally do from 12-6. Extended Day is not offered on Friday 6/2. Please make sure you have communicated your child's dismissal procedure for the last day of school. Students can either be a bus rider, car rider or walker (must already be signed up as a walker).
Students will begin to bring home their supplies this week. If your child does not normally carry a backpack, please have them bring in a bag. This will help them to be able to easily bring home their belongings.

Even though our books are back yet, we will still celebrate our success as authors. We will have a small celebration at school on Tuesday morning. Students will read their poems and display their illustrations.

Just a reminder, our FAST PM3 for Math will be this coming Monday. Students should also eat a good energizing breakfast either at home or here in the cafeteria before school.
Results from testing will appear in Family Portal beginning on May 9th. After that results will be posted daily. One good thing about computer based testing is that we can get results quickly.

This week in math, we will continue reviewing for our FAST PM3 test. We will also look at how board games are put together and begin making the neat copies of our games.

This week in science we will continue our work on plants and animals. Students were given a copy of our final science project of the year, Food Chain Rafts. For this project students need to create a food chain that includes the sun, a producer, a first level consumer (omnivore or herbivore), a second level consumer (omnivore or carnivore) and a decomposer. Students were given the materials including a rubric in class on Friday (5/5). Students are to assume the role of something in their food chain and write a friendly letter to another member of their chosen food chain. In their letter they have two jobs: 1 Plead, convince, or complain to another part of a chosen food chain your role or theirs in the given food chain. 2 Explain how energy flows through their food chain.

For example:

*In a food chain of the sun, grass, cricket, bearded dragon you might

-assume the role of the cricket and plead to the bearded dragon why they the bearded dragon should pick something else to eat.

Or

-assume the role of the bearded dragon and explain to the cricket why you must eat it.

Or

-assume the role of the grass and explain to the sun why the sun needs to shine in order for you (the grass) to grow.
