Most rewards will not be awarded until after testing, but we may sneak some here and there.

Now that we are in the fourth nine weeks. Students should also begin to think about what leadership positions that they may want to have next year. Rising 5th graders can select from:
*Safety Patrols
*T V Production

Students will soon begin to find out about the requirements for each group. Most require a 7:55 arrival in the morning. TOT duties can also be done after school (2:50-3:10)

This week in math we will continue our geometry unit. We will learn about parallel lines. We will take a closer look at how angles and circles are related. We will also learn how to use a circle protractor and continue to practice with the half circle protractor.

This week in science we will take a look at Florida's ecosystems. We will learn about the differences between weather and climate. We will also learn how weather and climate affects the plants and animals that live in an ecosystem.

In social studies we will continue to look at the development of different industry's in Florida after the Civil War. In lesson 1 we looked at how the development of the railroad created the tourism industry that our state is so famous for.  Students should reread chapter 7 lesson 2 Florida's Agriculture. It was assigned two weeks before Spring Break, but we did not take the quiz. This week we will discuss lessons 2 and 3. Lesson 3 Florida Industry. This lesson will look at how new industries brought jobs and immigrants to our state.

Have a Great Week,

Week of March 12th

Hi Everyone,

Don't forget that we have a field trip on Thursday to St. Augustine. We are planning to leave the school at 9:00 and return by 2:00. We are asking that students wear their class shirts and comfortable walking shoes. Students may also want to wear a long sleeve shirt under their JBE shirts and bring a jacket. It will be very cool during the morning. Students will also

If you are a chaperoning for the trip, you will need to drive. You can follow the buses or meet us at the visitor center/parking garage. Our classes will board the Trolley Tour first. During the tour we will look at different sites around the city. We will be dropped off at the Castillo de san Marcos. While at the fort we will have a guided tour of the fort. After our tour we will walk back to the visitor center and eat lunch.

Thank you to everyone that participated in our fundraising efforts for the Super Hero Sprint. As of today our class has raised $1,760!! We are only $40 away from our class goal of $1,800. PTA will be accepting donations until Friday. So it is not too late to get involved. Please help us reach our goal.

This week in math we will learn how to use a protractor. Students are receiving a paper protractor from me to use to complete any homework that requires a protractor. If you choose to buy a protractor for your child, consider buying a clear one. They are much easier to read than the colored ones.We will also learn about perpendicular and parallel lines.

This week in science we will begin learning about ecosystems. We will learn about they ways climate affects ecosystems here in Florida.

Our social studies this week will focus on St. Augustine. Please click on the links below to learn more about the fort.

Week of March 5th

Hi Everyone,

We will take our writing FSA on tomorrow morning (Tuesday 3/6).  Here are a couple of reminders.

*Students should get plenty of rest tonight. The test will last for 2 hours.

*Students should eat a hearty breakfast. We will not have any snacks until after testing is completed (11:00).

*Students should arrive at school no later than 8:45.

*Students will leave all belongings in the hallway during testing.

*Smart Watches or watches with a timer will not be allowed into the classroom during testing.

We will take our test on decimals on Wednesday. We will then begin our geometry unit. Students will learn how to use a protractor to measure given angles, and to draw angles to a specified degree. Protractors will be available in the classroom. We will give students paper copies of protractors to use to complete homework. However, you may want to buy a protractor for your child. If they do bring their protractor to school please have them write their name on it.

We will take our science test on chapter 7 on Thursday.  We will then begin chapter 8. In chapter 8 we will continue our study of plants and animals. We will learn about biomes and food chains.

In social studies we will continue our look at St. Augustine to get ready for our field trip.

Week of 2/26

Hi Everyone,

We are almost through another week. I can't believe that February is over already. March will be just as busy as February.

Permission slips for our field trip to St. Augustine. The field trip will be on Thursday March 15th. This field trip goes with our social studies Florida History studies. Students will get to have a guided tour of the Castillo de san Marcos. We will also take a trolley tour of other historical sites of the city.
The cost of the trip is $15 for students and chaperones. However, we are limited to 4 chaperones. If you are interested in being a chaperone please do not send in your money now. Instead send me an email or write your name on the line Person interested in serving as Volunteer Chaperone line on the bottom of the perimission slip. Please let me know no later than March 7th. If we have more than 4 people interested I will put names into a hat and draw. Preference will be given to parents who have not been on a field trip yet (library/zoo). Thanks so much for your consideration and support.

We have started our PTA Super Hero Sprint fundraiser!! This fundraiser is modeled after the Booster-thon fundraiser that we have done in the past. The awesomness of the Super Hero Sprint is that JBE will get to keep 100% of the money that is raised. in past years the Booster-thon company walked away with more than half of the money raised. Please consider giving a small donation if you can. The students are trying to earn classroom incentives. Even if you can't donate, please go to our class page and at least have your child register. Registering costs nothing and your child will earn a free homework pass. PTA is also planning some fun activities:

Socceer Day--Wear your soccer shirt. Wednesday 2/28
Jaguar Day--Wear your Jaguars gear. Friday 3/2
Super Hero Day--Dress as your favorite super hero Tuesday 3/6
Surf Day--Wear your surf gear Wednesday 3/7
JBE Spirit Day--Wear a JBE shirt Thursday 3/8
Super Hero Sprint--Students will be given a shirt for the run Friday March 9th
4th Grade will go out to run at 10:45.
