We have Early Release this Wednesday. Please make sure your child knows their dismissal plans.

                                  The Best Part of Me

As part of our social emotional unit, students will be writing a poem about the best part of themselves. I am also asking you to write a poem about the best part of your child. I am hoping that through this activity students will develop positive perspectives about themselves.

Once you have completed your poem place it in the envelope and seal it. Please do not share your poem with child. I would like for them to read it for the first time in class.

Due to the demands of testing, I was unable to have students begin their poems. We will begin working on them this week. Please try to have your poem turned in by Friday April 1st. Thank you to everyone that has already sent in their poems.

This week in science we will continue to focus on how the rotation of the Earth causes the sun and other stars to appear to move across the daytime and nighttime sky. We will also discuss why we see different constellations at different times of the year due to the Earth revolution around the Sun. Our orbit around the sun is also why we have seasons.
Make sure your child is working on their Moon Calendar. Projects are due on April 22nd. Please use the web site below to help keep an accurate calendar.

This week in science, we will begin Unit 3 Earth's Place in Space. In this unit we will study standards to help students understand:
* the differences between rotation and revolution
* why stars appear to move across the sky
* why the observable shape of the moon appears to change
* the effect the space industry has had on our lives and the economy of Florida
This week we will focus on rotation and revolution. The Earth rotates or spins on its axis once every 24 hours. Earth also revolves once around the sun every 365 days. The movements of Earth is connected to why stars including the sun appear to move across the sky. The stars are stationary and we are the ones moving. We see the sun during daytime because of Earth's rotation. We see different constellations at different times of the year because of Earth's revolution around the sun.
This week students will also begin a month long project tied to our standard on the observable changes in the shape of the moon. Students will be given a moon calendar. They need to neatly color in the moon to show the parts of the moon that we can see. This project will be due on April 22nd. Students work will be graded on accuracy, neatness, and being turned in on time.
