Week of 10/16

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the first week of the second nine weeks. On Wednesday students will go to their Enrichment Labs. On Wednesday students will also get to participate in the first ticket cash in of the school year. Students will have the following options:

Treats/Snack   10 Tickets
Homework Pass 15 Tickets
Extra Recess  25 Tickets
Computer Time  25 Tickets

If students do not have enough tickets to purchase an item or they decide to not buy anything this time, they will automatically go to study hall. At 1:30 students that purchase extra recess will go outside with either me or Mrs. Pavlinek.. Those that purchase extra computer time will get a laptop to work on Prodigy.  All other students will go to Study Hall. In study hall students can work on any assignment that they wish. They may work on their independent reading, ELA Rotations, math or science choice board, math rotation project, or science/social studies vocabulary.  Students that buy a treat/snack or homework pass will also go to study hall.

I am asking that students come to school on Wednesday morning already knowing how many tickets they have and what they wish to purchase.

This week in math we will continue working on multiples/factors and prime/composite numbers. At the end of the week we will begin learning different multiplication strategies. This week will learn the array model and the area model.

Math Choice Projects will be due on October 31st. Be on the look out for direction sheets for each project to come to your email. Students are required to select two projects for completion. Students will be bringing home their work to have peer reviews with you. This is your time to see what they have been working in class. This is also a time for you to help them make corrections to their work. Their work will be evaluated based on accuracy, neatness and completion. Spelling and punctuation do count.

This week in science we will continue to explore the states of matter. We will finish up our exploration of magnetism. We will then begin to focus on how the molecules behave during each state of matter. Students will also learn about water in each of the three states. We will take a test on lessons 1, 2, and 4 next week. The vocabulary for these lessons will not be due until we complete chapter 4.

This week in social studies we will complete chapter 2 with our study of lesson 3. In lesson 3 students will continue to learn about the first Floridians. We will take the test for chapter 2 on next Friday. The vocabulary for chapter 2 will also be due at that time.

Have A GREAT week,
Aesha
