Week of May 6th

Hi Everyone,

We will begin our math FSA on Tuesday. Session one is on Tuesday and  session two is on Wednesday. We finished our review today in class. We also discussed test anxiety by listening to the story, The Anti-Test Anxiety Society. You can view the book at the following link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cft1HfhMkf4 We also wrote positive poems about tests to take the "have tos" out of tests and make tests "get tos". For example students "get to" show what they have learned all year. We are going to Show that test who is BOSS!!

We will go to see a Jumbo Shrimp game on Monday May 20th. Students will get a hot dog and a drink during the game. Students may also bring a bag lunch to eat before we enter the Baseball grounds. If students bring a lunch it should be completely disposable because we are not allowed to bring food or coolers in to the game.
The price of the field trip is $15 for students and chaperones. If you are interested in coming please send in your money along with your child's money and permission slip.

This week in math we will focus on taking our FSA. Students are also working on an in class project for decimals. That we will finish up by Friday.

This week in science we will learn about the difference between inherited traits and learned behaviors. Students will also learn about instincts. For example jaguars are born with an instinct to hunt but learn how to hunt by watching other members of the prowl. We will also learn about the animal instincts of migration and hibernation. At the end of the week we learn how animals get energy. We will learn about producers, consumers, and food chains.
Students will take their District Science Baseline next Wednesday. The grade students earn on this test will be entered into the grade book.
Students have begun presenting their Genius Hour projects. We will continue with presentations every Tuesday until everyone has had a turn. You can help your child prepare by letting them present their project to you. Be an audience for them. Ask them questions about their topic. And give them overall freed back on the information in their presentation as well as how the did as a presenter.

Students will complete their last social studies sheets this week. Students should make sure to bring in their social studies books so that they can be checked in when their class goes to the library.

Have a GREAT week,
Aesha
