Field Trip St. Augustine
This week in math students will continue learning about fractions. We will learn more about subtracting mixed numbers. We will also work on solving problems based on real world situations. At the end of the week students will take a field trip to Glacier National Forest to help a family plan for food and water supplies for their trip. Students will also take another timed quiz this week.
We are planning to take our test on Wednesday or Thursday next week. We will then begin our work with decimals.
This week in science we will complete our study of minerals. Did you know that minerals are not rocks. They are the building blocks of rocks. Every rock as a specific assortment of minerals that make up the rock. Students are learning about the properties that scientist use to identify minerals. Scientist consider color, hardness, streak color, luster, fracture (how it breaks) and crystal composition in order to identify a mineral. Scientist must look at many properties to determine what mineral it might be. They can not rely on any one property because many minerals come in different colors and many different minerals share similar properties. Students will have a quiz on Friday covering lesson 1, (weathering, erosion, deposition) and lesson 2, (minerals).
Have a Wonderful week,
Ms. Johnson
