Happy Monday Everyone,

No victory for the Jaguars this weekend, but FAMU and Alabama Won!!! It would be great if I could get all three teams to win on the same weekend!!

We have several important events taking place this week.
*The Flu Clinic that was scheduled for today was cancelled. When it is rescheduled we will let you       know.
*The Perfect Spring FSA field trip is on Tuesday. If your child received an invitation please make sure they bring their permission slip back.
*Wednesday is National Dads take your students to school day.
*On Wednesday my homeroom class will listen to speeches by those students interested in being our     Student Council Class Representative.
*Wednesday is an early release day students will be dismissed at 1:30.
*On Thursday my homeroom will vote for Student Council Class Representatives.
*Library Field Trip will be on Thursday. Students are asked to wear their class shirts. We will eat in the cafeteria at our normal time.
*Friday is Jacksonville Beach Elementary Day!! Students are asked to wear a JBE shirt on Friday.
*For our Morning Meet Up students are invited to bring in something to share about themselves. What ever students bring in it should be small enough for the student to manage it alone without a parents help. Students can bring in photos, certificates, or trophies anything that they are proud of. I am looking for them to bring in something that celebrates them.

I am still working on Thank You cards. But I wanted to thank everyone for the wonderful birthday wishes and gifts. It was a very special day. Everything from my Orange and Green flowers to the ultimate Angel for my angel collection and the numerous cards, flowers and gifts. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

This week for technology students are being asked to complete at least 30 minutes of i-Ready. This is a change from our usual 15 minutes. Students will have 30 minutes of i-Ready each week. The window for the week opens on Friday afternoon and doesn't close until the following Friday morning. This way students can get their technology homework completed during the weekend if they or you  desire.

This week in math we will begin working on customary units of measure. We will cover units of length (inch, foot, yard, mile), capacity (fluid ounce, cup, pint, quart, gallon), weight (ounce, pound, ton). Students will need to know how to convert measurements but will be able to use their reference sheet. We will convert from larger units to smaller units.
Students will also begin working on an essay where they give an argument for which system they like better; the metric system or the customary system. Students will also have to support their argument with reasons.

This week in science we will continue to learn about the properties of matter. We will learn how to find the volume of a rectangular prisms and cubes using Volume = length x width x height. We will also learn how to find the volume of an object using water displacement.

This week in social studies we will continue to work on latitude and longitude. We will begin working on Chapter 2. Chapter 2 is all about the first people that came to Florida. This week's focus will be on lesson 1. Students need to read and comprehend lesson 1. Please keep in mind that if your child is reading below the 4th grade Lexile Level of 740 they may have difficulty reading in their science and social studies books. You may need to sit and read the lesson with them to help them understand the material.  For this week's homework students have a sheet on latitude/longitude and a sheet for chapter 2 lesson 1. Students should also have all of the vocabulary words for chapter 1 completed.

Have a FABULOUS week,
Aesha
