Happy Monday Everyone,

We have reached the end of April. So that means that we have only one more month of school before Summer Vacation!! However, our Underwater Exploration is not over yet.      This week in math we will begin working on our end of the year project based learning activity called Dream House. In this project students will work with classmates to design their very own dream house using many of the math skills that they have perfected this school year. Students will use multiplication, of both whole numbers and fractions/mixed numbers, adding/subtracting decimal numbers, area and perimeter and geometry. Students will use graph paper to create a blue print plan of their dream home. Students will be given a list of rules (building codes) that must be used to the house of their dreams. They will work with classmates to decide the number of rooms, the types of rooms and the layout of the rooms. Students have parameters such as a $500,000.00 price limit. Which hopefully after this project they will gain an understanding of the actual prices of things.
Before we begin the work students will need to gain a better understanding of how homes are laid out. And how to make a blue print plan with gives an overhead view of a home.

In order to do this students have a preliminary homework assignment to complete this week. For their Dream House homework I am asking that they do a simple blue print sketch of their home. Students will be given graph paper for this work. It does not have to show great detail. They also have some questions to answer about their home.

This week in science we will continue our work on the reproduction of plants. This week students will have the opportunity to plant seeds and grow their own plant.
