Week of September 26th

Happy Monday Everyone,

I would like to say a huge Thank You to everyone for all of the birthday wishes, treats and gifts. I am very overwhelmed by your thoughtfulness.
As we all know our kids are going to get sick from time to time. And sometimes when they are healing they are well enough to come back to school, but still require medication. Duval County Public Schools has a very strict policy when it comes to medication at school. We are not allowed to dispense medicine at school unless a medication form has been filled out and signed by both a doctor and the parent. This includes both prescription and over the counter (cough drops, aspirin, etc.) medications. The form was included in the back to school packet and most doctors have them at their offices. Below is a copy of the medication guidelines that we follow in DCPS.

We have a working snack time ever day when we get back from our resource classes. Some students that don't have a snack are saying that they are hungry. Please help your child remember to back a snack each day for when they get hungry. If it is hard for them to remember they can keep packs of granola bars, chips, etc. in their cubbies so they can grab it at snack time.

The STEM Showcase is this Thursday night!! Please join us for lots of fun STEM activities. Students that come will earn extra credit for their science grade. I hope everyone can attend.
Two of our activities need some materials that you may have on hand at home. We need water bottles with the lids and empty paper towel rolls. If you have any please send them in to me or to Mrs. Lomblo.

Thank you to everyone that gave to our STEM September fundraiser. JBE has once again knocked it out of the park.!! The fundraiser will run until the end of this week. Please go to https://stem-september.cheddarup.com to make a donation.
Ticket Cash In

Students have been earning tickets since we started school. We will have our first Ticket Cash in on this Wednesday. Students can use their tickets to purchase items listed below or save them until the next cash in day. We will have cash in on the last Friday, every other month. If students purchase Electronics they may bring in an electronic device to play games during recess on Friday. The game must be appropriate for school. The game must also be downloaded to the device because students are not allowed to log personal devices on the DCPS network..

Ticket Cash

*Snack 10 Tickets             *Homework Pass 20 Tickets

*Lunch Not In the Cafeteria 25 Tickets         *Ice Cream 25 Tickets

Unit 5 Science Test Today

This week in math, we will finish our work in unit 4. Students will take a quiz on Tuesday. We will then begin working on unit 5. In unit 5, Numbers and Number Patterns, your child will find factor pairs of whole numbers and identify numbers as prime or composite. Your child will also generate a pattern from a rule and describe and extend a pattern.
Math Terms for Unit 5
composite number a whole number that has more than 1 factor pair factor pair a set of two factors that are multiplied together to get a product
prime number a whole number with exactly two factors, 1 and itself sequence
pattern rule the rule tells us how to find the next term in the sequence  sequence numbers that follow a repeated pattern
numerical pattern a sequence of numbers that follow a rule
Math Clips

This week in science, we will continue our study of matter. This week we will learn how the molecules in water behaves in each state. Most students are familiar with the states of matter, solid, liquid, and gas. This year we will take a more focus look at the molecules. We will also discuss freezing (when heat energy is removed particles in matter slow down until they can no longer move freely), melting (adding heat causes particles to speed up), evaporation (when heat is added the particles speed up so much they become water vapor), and condensation (when heat energy is removed from a gas, the particles slow down enough that they change from a gas to a liquid).

We will also study the physical property of magnetism. A magnet is an object that attracts iron. We will learn about magnetic fields and magnetic poles.
