October 10, 2022

Happy Monday Everyone,

I would like to thank everyone that was able to come to the STEM Showcase last Thursday night!! It was amazing to have our JBE Science Night again. The last time we were able to it was February 2020. It was such a joy to see our students so engaged in all of the wonderful activities that our teachers  and guests prepared.

10/11 Tuesday
Units 4 and 5 Math Test

10/11 Tuesday
End of Quarter 1

10/12 Wednesday
Donuts With Dudes Last Names A-M

10/13 Thursday
Donuts With Dudes Last Names N-Z

10/15 Saturday
100 Mile Club Kickoff and Weekend Run

10/17 Monday
Teacher Planning Day--No School for Students

This week in math, students will review how to use the algorithm for addition and subtraction of multi-digit numbers with regrouping. Students usually do not have any issues with the addition algorithm, but can struggle when subtracting involves regrouping especially when subtracting across zeros. Please keep an eye out for the any issues that your child might have when completing this work.
We will also begin our unit on multiplication of multi-digit numbers. This unit will have us starting out using estimation to solve problems. We will then learn about the area model for solving problems. We will also be learning the standard algorithm for multiplication.

This week in science, we will begin learning about physical and chemical changes in matter. This is a very short unit with only two lessons. Physical changes in matter are changes that do not change the matter into a new substance. The matter can be torn, broken, cut into pieces. The matter is still the same substance. For example a sheet of paper can folded into an airplane, torn in half, or balled up it is still paper so the paper has only gone through a physical change. However, when a chemical change has taken place a new substance is formed. Rusting, burning, and decay are all examples of chemical changes.

Monday: Math: Study for Units 4 and 5 Tests Freckle: Facts Practice
