November 1, 2021

Happy Monday Everyone,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I would like to thank everyone that participated in our Fall Festival activities. The students enjoyed the treats, the art activities and playing bingo. We also had a great morning going out to enjoy 5th Grade People Fair.

We will be going on our very first field trip in since 2019!! We will venture to The Fountain of Youth in St. Augustine. Students will participate in activities that go along with our social studies Florida History standards. The field trip will take place on November 16th. Each class is allowed 10 chaperones. Chaperones must be approved on the DCPS Volunteer List. Chaperones will also be responsible for driving themselves to and from the field trip. Students must ride the bus to the field trip, but may be checked out by you after the activities are over. The cost of the field trip for students is $14 and $16 for chaperones.  If you are interested in being a chaperone please use the pay online option to pay the fees and let your child's homeroom teacher with a note or an email.

This week in math, we will begin working on OA.1.a, deciding if two equations are true or false with using computation.

The problem above is similar to ones that students will see in class and on various assessments. Students can not rely on the fact that 74-32=32 and 70-30=40 to tell that the two equations are not equal to each other. Students instead will use reasoning like pictured below to tell that the answer is letter b.

We will also work on OA.1.b, using relational thinking to find the value of a variable in one of the two equations. The answer to the problem below is letter d.

We will end the week working on OA.3.5, which deals with number and shape patterns.

This week in science we will continue our work with energy. Our focus for this week will be energy transformations. We will discuss how energy cannot be created or destroyed. It simply changes from one form to another. For example when you plug in a television and turn it on, the electrical energy from the plug is transformed into sound and light energy when the television is turned on.

Monday: Math: Freckle Facts Practice
Science: HMH Unit 7 Lesson 2 Digital Lesson

Tuesday: Math: Lesson 24 Homework Sheet

Wednesday: Math Lesson 25 Homework Sheet

Thursday: Organization Action Plan

Have a Wonderful Week,
Aesha
