I would like to express my deepest appreciation and thanks for a truly wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week. All of the thoughtful cards, notes and gifts mean so much!!
We will take our Math FSA on this Monday and Tuesday, May 9th and 10th. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a filling nutritious breakfast. The Math FSA has two sessions and each session is 80 minutes long. We will take a short stretch break after 40 minutes. We will not have snack until after testing is complete.
Our End of 4th Grade Party will be on Wednesday May 25th. Students will enjoy carnival type activities. Each homeroom parent team is planning two different activities so that the students will rotate between 10 different activities. Some of the activities will include water, so students may want to bring a change of clothes for when we are done.
For lunch that day we have arranged for the Mr. Taco food truck to serve students tacos. Students are selecting between two chicken, two beef, or two vegetable tacos. To fill out their meal they will get chips, salsa and a bottle of water. Students made their food choices in class. The cost of the lunch is $5.00. Please use the envelope that your child should have in their trapper to return $5.00. Please send the exact amount and cash only.

This week in math we will take our Math FSA tests. After testing students will begin working on Dream House, our end of year project. The work will be done entirely in class. For this project students will work in groups to design their "Dream House". During this project students will be required to use many of skills that they have learned during this school year. Items that may be of help to the students are mechanical pencils and large erasers.
This week in science we will continue our life science unit. Last week students began working on a Growing Plants Lab. Students were given two marigold seeds to plant. Students were in charge of planting the seeds and deciding how much water to give to the seeds. Students are also keeping a log that includes diagrams and observations about the process of growing a plant from a seed.
As part of our study of the life cycles of animals students are learning about complete and incomplete metamorphosis. We have some special caterpillar visitors that we have been observing for about a week. Butterflies and many other insects complete a complete metamorphosis as part of their life cycle. In a complete metamorphosis, there are 4 stages; egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Some insects like grasshoppers go through an incomplete metamorphosis. Their life cycles include 3 stages; egg, nymph, and adult.
Students will take the District Science Baseline test on this Friday, May 13th. The test will cover all of the material from our science work this school year. We will complete a practice test in class this week. Students can review those items by reading the passages in the pink book that correspond to the questions that they miss on practice test.
